REPLICATING THE REEFS

Artist Amy Eisenfeld Genser's latest work is stunning. For her recent exhibition she replicated coral reefs using rolled paper and acrylic. Each piece is about a foot wide and have hundreds of rolled bits of paper. Her collages are really interesting and complex.

SPOTLIGHT: MONIQUILLA

So I was digging through one of the inspiration folders I created a couple years ago and I came across some  artwork I had saved by Moniquilla. I still find her work so amazing. Bright, bold colors, patterns and illustrations. It is the kind of work that makes you smile when you see it.

OH BIRDY

That voice!  I honestly like this version better than the original by Bon Iver. Delicate, strong, diverse... did I mention she is 15? As my husband would tell you, I am a terrible singer. Tone deaf, off-pitch, and just bad. The one true talent I really wish I had is to be able to sing. Thank you Birdy for your lovely voice.

A THOUGHT

SPOTLIGHT: ANDY HARMAN

Andy Harman is a production designer working in fashion photography. His work is vast and ranges in scale, materials, and genre. My favorite is his work with rope, I love the application of macrame meets sculpture.

ART GALLERY

One day I want to have an art gallery at home. I thought it would be cool to start collecting art work on travels. Unfortunately we really didn't find anything we loved in Costa Rica on our honeymoon that was affordable. I want it to be a personal diary of sorts, when we look at a piece we remember when and where we got it. I think it could even be as simple as a lovely postcard. Anyway, I like the feel of this gallery wall and think I will have to work towards that!

WHAT GOOD SHALL I DO THIS DAY?

Something you should know about me- I am a very curious person (hence the subtitle for the blog). I love to know people's habits, routines, products they use, and backgrounds. I like to know how something is made, why something is the way it is. I was delighted to come across an image of Benjamin Franklin's daily schedule. For a man who wore many hats I was so interested to see how he structured his day. Aside from my admiration of his always making time to dine and enjoy conversation or music, I was most struck with how he began his day by asking "what good shall I do this day," and ended it with, "what good have I done today." How brilliant and simple. I love the humbling approach to the everyday, and think I will follow in B.F.'s lead.
