SOMETHING PERMANENT

If I was to get a tattoo this would be it (Mom no need to call about this).

A WHISPER IN MY EAR

nothing so liberalizes a man and expands the kindly instincts that nature put in him as travel and contact with many kinds of people
-Mark Twain

PS I also love that travel board! What a cool way to mark the places you have been. Maybe write the dates on the tags. Now I just need to find a oversized map with great coloring and my DIY can begin.

IF I COULD I WOULD...

Wear gowns designed by Elie Saab every day of my life, no occasion necessary. I think he might be my at the top of my list for all time favorite designers. Saab began designing dresses at the age of 9 for his sisters, and has become a fashion design icon. His effortless design and taste make for such exceptional pieces.

PS it is worth it to go to his website and watch some of the shows, flat pictures don't do the garments all the justice they deserve.

SPOTLIGHT: VALERIA NASCIMENTO

Words cannot describe how much I admire installation artist/sculptor Valeria Nascimento. She creates large scale installations from porcelain ceramic. Her work is stunning, whimsical, natural and honestly breathtaking. The humble beauty of her work is something to dream about.

SEQUINS & STONE

I have a thing for sequins, though I am not always brave enough to wear them. There is just something so interesting about the multi-faceted faces that sparkle and shine, much like gems.

I love this board because it also highlights Carly Waito, an unbelievable painter. Yes, those two images on the bottom left of the stones are PAINTED! Amazing... she can see color, light and shadow in such a stunning way. I would love to have a collection of her work hanging on my walls.

MY WORK: LABOR OF LOVE

I thought it might be time to finally share some of my work. This is the piece that I consider so special as it is a reflection of my design taste, and my passion. It was a labor of love as I designed, hand selected the wood, cut my materials, finished, oiled, forged, milled, and poured my heart into this piece. It now sits in my home in SLC!

On a side note, I undertook this project at ASU while studying Industrial Design. I happened upon an amazing shop instructor who was hands down the most influential and encouraging teacher I had during my time there, and he wasn't even an instructor in my program. Serves as a reminder to keep your mind open to opportunities and chances to learn! I wish my entire time at ASU could have been spent there in the shop, I felt far more creative designing and creating with my hands and evolving projects as the materials called for, than I ever did in a traditional design course.

LAND PATTERNS

Aerial view of the land are so interesting, tragic and inspiring. The colors, shapes, and structured organic is breathtaking. Holland's tulip fields anyone?

OFFICE SPACE

Since moving to our new loft I am really wanting a solid work space set up. I am dreaming of lots of table space, good storage, and a modern look. I would love to attach table tops to hairpin legs like this.

COLOR: PINK PASSION

I am really enjoying the hot pink trends this year. I love how it is a little more sophisticated and not overly girly and young for spring/summer 2012.

IT'S IN THE WIND

I am feeling some change coming on... spring is in the air, and hopefully new opportunities are too. I always love this time of year and for some reason it always feels more fitting to do "New Year's" resolutions when the feeling  of spring is so fresh and new.  More on that soon...

COME TO LIFE

Colorado's Tourism Print Campaign executed and imagined by photographer and director Tim Kemple is stunning. It is so simple, beautiful and compelling. It is so refreshing to see graphic design executed so well. The rest of Kemple's portfolio is just as moving.

IN THE SAND

I can't get the desert sand out of my head yet. Artist Andres Amador uses beaches as his canvas. Often solo or with one aide he creates organic art pieces using only a rake and his imagination. I think it is incredible that he is so creative and can work so fast, before the tides come back in and create a fresh canvas.

TO THE DESERT LAND

I have come to realize that after growing up in the desert I have taken it for granted. The texture, space, dimension and depth are something to soak in. What a humbling and inspiring weekend adventure. It was a reminder of how much I have yet to see.
