LEADING LADIES

My better half and I were recently having a conversation about how fortunate I have been to have some amazing women role models make lasting impacts in my life. I have 3 leading ladies that have made some impact on my life at different points. Although all are different in careers, personalities and age they all have shared some major similarities; all are strong individuals, brilliant, creative, business savvy, and mothers on top of it. They have shown me how to navigate so many aspects of life and each lesson has really shaped me and inspired me. How lucky is it to know someone you want to be like. I am 25 and I still find myself saying, "when I grow up I want to be like her." Hopefully some of their charms are rubbing off.

IT HAS BEEN FOREVER...

Sorry I have been away so long. I just completed my first major installation at a boutique here in Salt Lake City. I will be posting pictures soon! In the meantime here is a study on texture.

MAGIC

I can't quite tell you why I love unicorns. I don't have any figurines, images or pictures of them at home. But for some reason when I do come across images it makes me happy... magic?

PATTERN PLAY

I find myself craving the routine of pattern within fashion and life.

I LIKE THESE WORDS

PRETTY PLEASE

If I photoshopped our faces over them, would it help you to better imagine how wonderful our lives would be with a dog like that?

MY WORK: SAVE THE DATE

The Save the Dates have definitely been the major hiccup in the wedding planning. If you read this post you would know that we had to delay getting the Save the Dates on account of not having a photo. Anyways, I am pretty excited about the way they came out. They look pretty in the black and white with the soft silver envelopes. I had a custom return address made for all of our future paper goods including the formal invites. Jaime from simpleANDpretty was wonderful to work with. I cannot wait to show you the formal invites, they are perfect! *Please note: the "Nick and Lynsey" stamp is a full return address stamp, I just photoshopped out our address for safety.

SPOTLIGHT: MICHELLE MORELAN

Hailing from Canada, Michelle Morelan pumps at beautiful rendering of her interior design concepts. I love her light, quick style. This is how I wish I had learned to render while at college. I am sure there is a lot of practice behind her skill... another thing to add to the goals list.

MULBERRY

I love this ad campaign by Mulberry. It reminds me of the editorial version of this.

CHANEL & KARL

Karl Lagerfield your imagination inspires me. This runway is far more than just the fashion. What a stunning visual display, every detail is thought out and I love how it the stalagmites mimic the runway shoes. I only wish I could have seen it in person.

FOR THOSE WHO DREAM

It saddens me that I can't seem to keep up with my thought journal here on OWD. I don't think it is ever too late to reevaluate goals though. So here is to trying to be more regular! I will see you tomorrow.

FREELANCE: CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS

Yes, I currently freelance on the side when my day job as a Visual Stylist permits. Freelancing is that creative work where you get some projects and clients that you love and wish you could work with forever, and others that you do to gain another experience and get paid. I love that diversity and challenge, it makes me a better designer and communicator. Yesterday my fiancé and I had absolutely the worst experience with a freelance photographer who we had hired to shoot our engagement photos. Lets just say the guy was rude, offensive and unprofessional on so many levels. We were so taken aback by his behavior that we didn't just stop the shoot in the first five minutes and say, "hey we just aren't right for each other, lets just call it done and not waste each others time." It was a total disappointment as this shoot was supposed to be special to us, instead I cried the entire way home. We did end up calling him and expressing our frustration later, but it didn't change our impression. Too little too late.

This experience served as a reminder for me being on the customer side of the freelance business. The customer is right, always, always, always! I often have clients who's taste or preferences I may not align with but if they love something I am going to support that and do my best to make it look awesome. Not everything I do makes it in my portfolio because it may not fit with my design aesthetic, but was the customer happy? If yes, than I nailed it, and they will recommend me to their friends for future work. Our experience left us reeling and I feel the need to tell just about anyone who will listen about the poor service I received and will not ever, ever recommend this photographer to anyone. Funny how that works huh?

BABY JACKSON

I am a proud Auntie, and cannot wait to meet my new nephew in a week! Not too long ago I posted about my brother and sister-in-law's wedding and now we get to see their first addition to the family. Congrats to Austin and Khloe and welcome baby Jackson, isn't he the cutest dang thing!

MIXED THOUGHTS

I love this mixed media shot and the vibe that it projects. It has been so busy around here working, traveling, and trying to plan a wedding.

COLOR MONDAY-POP OF RED

I love a nice pop of color on an otherwise muted palette. Back from a girls weekend and back to work on this last Monday in July. It is just crazy how time flies.

ADVENTURE CAPTURED

I have posted about Tim Kemple before, and he still amazes me with his craft and skill at capturing adventure. His images make you want to be outside and seeing the world through his eyes. I wish I had a day with him to learn just a fraction about photography.

BLUE AND WHITE

I have always loved blue and white china (more as display or storage than for eating), I know it is really traditional, but something about the combination and patterns makes it feel so modern when paired with clean crisp whites and grays.

YES TO COLOR

I have had so many posts about rich color in fashion, but yet when I look in my closet I feel a little bored. I want this look, it makes me smile.

FOR THE ARTIST

I love these hand made sketchbooks. I am a serious collector of notepads, stationery, and writing utensils. I think I will be making this once I run out of space in my red moleskin.

HAPPY LOVE

Sorry it has been awhile. There has been a lot going on, I changed jobs, went on vacation and... got engaged! I am happy to announce that my best friend of nearly 7 years proposed to me last week. It has been very exciting and we have been enjoying the moments. It is likely I will be posting wedding/party inspiration as we make our plans.

MIRROR MIRROR

I have a thing for cool mirrors. I think that is a lesson I have learned from my Mom. My parents home is very beautifully decorated and my Mom always has her eye out for beautiful mirrors and places them in the most unexpected ways. Needless to say, I have some ideas for our loft. Maybe adding one into the gallery wall? Or propped on the ground or shelf, hung in a cluster?
